Biography
For the last 21 years Christinna Chauncey has helped thousands of actors achieve breakthrough in their work. As one of the most respected and sought-after private coaches & on-camera instructors in Los Angeles, she has 30+ years of combined professional experience working both in front of the camera and behind the scenes in casting. Having garnered a reputation as the “Coach who helps bridge the gap” in perspectives between the actor and the power decision makers - the casting director, writers, producers, director, studio, network - she provides actors with the strategy, technique and confidence needed to turn auditions into bookings. A highly trained actor who studied extensively under the guidance of acclaimed acting teacher Larry Moss (who gained widespread recognition for coaching Helen Hunt and Hilary Swank in their Academy Award-winning performances in As Good As It Gets, Boys Don't Cry, and Million Dollar Baby), Christinna’s onscreen credits include series regular as well as multiple guest star appearances in network television, and her casting credits include the smash hit comedy series Reba starring Reba McIntyre, the Kevin-Williamson produced (Vampire Diaries, Scream, Dawson's Creek) 1-hour drama Glory Days, Loose Cannon (produced by Will Smith and starring Nick Cannon), and the half-hour comedy pilots In My Opinion, Trash, and SoDowntown to name a few…
In late 2002, shortly following her sojourn into casting, Christinna discovered she had achieved massive breakthrough in her own work as an actor when her callback & booking ratios suddenly began to skyrocket. Having acquired a radically shifted perspective on the audition process as a direct result of sitting in the seat of the decision maker, she began helping fellow actors prep for their auditions. As they too began seeing results, she knew she had tapped into something incredible, and so she decided to spread the love and start a class. In March 2003 the 8-Week Intensive On-Camera Audition Workshop was born with a curriculum specifically designed to help actors clear of critical mistakes with confidence in front of the casting director and producers. Due to the quick success of the workshop and demand of her actors to create an ongoing format, Christinna added an advanced workout class as well as power weekend courses and the rest - as they say - is history. Among the secrets to the unique success of her studio has always been its unwavering commitment to small class size mixed with the high level of content and an intensely personal investment into each individual student's wheelhouse of bookability and bankability.
"From day one my business motto has always been - and will always be - 'Quality over Quantity'. I never set out to build a large acting studio - that was not my goal. I simply wanted to help people. Still to this day I much prefer having a smaller concentrated referral-based studio operating at its highest level of integrity over a large corporate-style studio that risks the work getting ‘watered down’. Aside from our content & specificity of technique, I believe it’s largely why we’ve continued to produce these kind of results."
When the pandemic struck in March 2020, it marked exactly 17 years of business at Christinna’s studio, which at that time was operating at “full-house” status every month and with a 6-month waitlist. When her studio doors were suddenly forced to close, Christinna found herself standing at an unexpected crossroads. Having been advised by her doctor that she was on the verge of adrenal burnout from overworking, she decided not to plow forward with online classes to meet the demand of her current students & waitlists, but instead to do what was “uncomfortable but necessary” and take a much-needed and extended sabbatical of rest from teaching. She has shared some of the details of this journey on her studio’s Youtube channel.
While on hiatus, she began resuming her own work in front of the camera, including booking a lead role on the hit Facebook Watch series Mira Mira, garnering over 50 million views on the streaming platform. For the rest of 2020 thru the Fall of 2024, Christinna remained on sabbatical from holding classes while still working privately with actors in one-on-one coaching sessions. This season of readjustment & rejuvenation was beautiful, nourishing, and necessary.
Now for this next phase of Christinna’s studio or “Studio 2.0” as she’s dubbed it, the focus is on raising the bar to an even higher & more intentional level.
“Post-pandemic, there have been so many changes with more still taking place. Truthfully, our industry will never be the same. Such shifts have birthed a new and evolving paradigm, which requires new and inventive thinking alongside the integration of technology. This next phase of my studio aims to address these changes and navigate them to the best of our ability with prolific and strategic precision and - as always - and incredible amount of positivity & joy, in abundance.”
